food & drink

The opportunity to purchase food and drink in Bernera is fairly limited, so it’s advisable to bring your own provisions if you intend to stay for longer. However, we do have a lovely community café, a 24-hour self-service shop, and a few locals who offer freshly-laid eggs from honesty boxes at the roadside.

Although the café accepts card payments (minimum transaction £5), it would be helpful to bring cash with plenty of small change for the honesty boxes and also to support local enterprises.

Note that there are no bars or restaurants in Bernera and nowhere is licensed to sell alcohol. The nearest stores which offer a wider range of products are Uig Community Shop, Carloway Community Shop and Lochs Services in Leurbost.

In addition, since most shops in the Western Isles are closed on Sundays (except Tesco’s and some fuel stations in Stornoway), we would highly recommend that, if you plan to arrive on a Sunday, you bring sufficient provisions for that day.
