grazings committees

A key part of crofting life is having the right to use land shared with other crofters for grazing livestock and cutting peat. This land is known as Common Grazings and is managed and maintained by Grazings Committees.

GRAZINGS COMMITTEES
Grazings Committees help to ensure that common grazings are well-maintained and kept in good condition for the future. The Committees can also contribute to increasing the confidence in communal working and management of community assets. There is usually a Chairperson and committee members who co-ordinate the functions of the Grazings Committee, and the contact person is usually the Grazings Clerk.

There are five Common Grazings Committees in Bernera and Tir Mor:
